Buying advice

What is an intermediate ski?

Intermediate skiers link parallel turns on red runs and start exploring the sides of the piste. A medium flex and 85–100 mm underfoot give enough grip to carve and enough surface for soft snow.

Which length for intermediates?

Around nose height, about 10 cm shorter than your height. Go longer if you're heavier, ski fast or love fresh snow; shorter if you prefer quick, short turns.

Time to move up?

If your skis feel nervous at speed or sink in soft snow, it's time for a wider, slightly stiffer all-mountain ski.

What skis are best for intermediate skiers?

Versatile all-mountain skis around 85–100 mm underfoot with a medium flex. They carve on piste and handle soft snow and chopped-up snow off the side.

How long should intermediate skis be?

About nose height, roughly 10 cm shorter than your height. Heavier or faster skiers can size up by about 5 cm.

Are 100 mm skis good for intermediate skiers?

Yes, if you spend time in fresh or soft snow. On hard pistes a 100 mm ski takes a little more effort to put on edge than an 85–90 mm ski.
